ER visit

This past Wednesday, I took Iain to the ER because he was running a fever of 101.6. I had called his doctor to see if I could get an appointment so that they could see him, the only time they had open was 3pm. That was too late for us, he needed to see a doctor and fast. We took Iain into the ER. When he the nurse took his temp it was 102.4, the poor little guy was in so much pain. The ER doctor ordered two tests, just to rule out the flu and RSV (both come back negative, thank goodness). The doctor than checked his ears to see if it was an ear infection. While it turned out that it was a viral ear infection. Basically, that means there was no pose behind the ear dumb but that there was swelling and fluid in the ear dumb. We were given drops for his ears and told to give him Motrin. We were instructed to give him Tylenol four after we got home (basically ever 8hours Iain was getting either Motrin or Tylenol) and every 2 hours that he was awake, we were to put drops in his ears and as often as needed to suction his nose. (Needless to say he was not a happy boy). When the nurse weighted him when we were admitted to the ER, we found out that Iain weighted 22lbs 4oz.

3 more teeth comming in...

Iain is getting not one but three teeth all at once. My poor little guy. Once they come in he will have a total of 5 teeth. I can't believe it, he is getting so big. Iain will be 9 months old tomorrow. The time sure has flown by fast. It seems like yesterday that we brought me home from the hospital. My baby is slowly (or fast) turning into a toddle. He is trying to walk without our help (but always falls on).

Babies Don’t Keep by Ruth Hulburt Hamilto

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth, Empty the dustpan, poison the moth, Hang out the washing, make up the bed, Sew on a button and butter the bread. Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking. Oh, I’ve grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue, Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo. Dishes are waiting and bills are past due Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo Look! Aren’t his eyes the most wonderful hue? Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo. The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep! I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

Okay, so I'm really board tonight......Can you tell

A mother's heart

"A mother's joy begins when new life is stirring inside... when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the very first time, and a playful kick reminds her that she is never alone." I loved you from the very start… You stole my breath, embraced my heart. Our life together has just begun, You’re part of me, my little one. As mother with child, each day I knew My mind would be filled with thoughts of you. I’m daydreaming of the things we’ll share, Like late-night bottles and teddy bears. Like first steps and skinned knees, Like bedtime stories and ABC’s. I’m thinking of things you’ll want to know, Like how birds fly and flowers grow. I’ve thought of lessons I’ll need to share, Like standing tall and playing fair. When I first see your precious face, I’ll pray your life be touched with grace. I’ll thank the angels from above, And promise you unending love. Each night I’ll lay you down to sleep, I’ll gently kiss your head and cheek. I’ll count your little fingers and toes, I’ll memorize your eyes and nose. I will linger at your nursery door, Awed each day that I love you more. Through misty eyes, I’ll dim the light, And whisper, “I love you” every night. As mother with child our journey’s begun, My heart’s yours forever, little one. I loved you from the very start… You stole my breath, embraced my heart."

Family Pictures are in...

Our new family picture
Bott Family Picture 1
Bott Family Picture 2
On December 29th, we went back to Olan Mills to have an updated family picture taken since Leslie and Chris's wedding in 2008, there are two new members of the family. Brian and I also had our family picture taken and this time it was cuter than the first ones we took on the 22nd.
Leslie, Chris, and Gabriel Small
The cousins, Iain and Gabriel. Aren't they just the cutest boys ever.
Brian and I thought that it would be fun if Leslie and Chris went to our appointment with us. We thought that the boys should have a picture together to give to their Bott grandparents and their aunts and uncle as a gift. Leslie and Chris had a family picture taken and it came out super cute.
Iain 8months old Can you see his two teeth. Aren't they cute.
On December 22nd, Brian and I took Iain in to get his 8month pictures taken. We had a family picture taken by they didn't come out good, at all, so we didn't get one that night.

Totally late as always for everything

I swear no matter how early Brian and I get up we cannot get anywhere on time or early. We have 1pm church and we still end up leaving at quarter till 2pm. One of these days we will be there on time but for now I'll have to deal with us being late. When you live with your in-laws and their 18 year old son (who likes to take 2 hour showers/baths) there just isn't enough hot water for all of us to have a hot shower. But when you have a baby that hardly sleeps because of all the noise in the house (from said teenager), we as the sleep deprived parents need HOT showers to function for the day. Brian and I liked to read our scriptures and say our morning prayers (this is basically the only time that we have alone time without being accused of being anti-family) before we leave our room at 9am on Sundays. So you would think that since everyone is normally up really early on Sundays that they could/would take a shower earlier than that. But no, everyone waits till Brian and I want to go and get ready. So, I'll just have to deal with ALWAYS being late for our church meetings.

No sleep

I was able to get Iain to sleep by 6:30- 6:45pm last night but he woke up at 7pm. Every time I laid him down in his crib he would wake up crying. By 8pm I had laid him down 15 different times and at 8 o'clock he woke up screaming and I could not get him to fall back to sleep on his own. The only way he would settle down to sleep was if I laid down with him in our bed and hold him all night long. I have read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (while my sister-in-law was out here for Christmas. I'm also on a waiting list at the library for this book). But I have tried a lot of things. Recently, Iain cut out his morning nap and he is trying to cut out another of his two remaining naps. What should I do?

Cool give away

http://babymakingmachine.blogspot.com/2010/01/road-from-ttc-to-pregnant.html Brian and I hopefully will start TTC sometime over the next couple of months and I would love to be able to win this give away from the blog babymakingmachine.blogspot.com If everything falls into place in the next few months we should be able to start trying for our second baby. I would love to give our son a little brother or sister to play with. But I would like to know when we get pregnant not 12 weeks after the fact. I don't want to be shocked again or scared about being pregnant.

I realized that...

This morning I realized that Brian and I are no longer new newlyweds. We are still at the beginning of our journey together but we are not new to this being marry thing. I mean we have an 8 1/2 month old son and are coming up on our third wedding anniversary this October. Brian and I are still newlyweds in the sense that we haven't been married for very many years. And we have just barely started our eternity together. Brian and I still consider ourselves as such. When do you stop considering your selves newlyweds and start considering your selves an old married couple with a child/children? Or is it okay to consider your selves newlyweds for as long as you are still in love with one another? What do you think?

Why won't he sleep

Yesterday Iain decided that he was going to cut out his first nap of the day. But because he cut that nap out his pushed his other two naps later. But yesterday he didn't want to go to sleep until 11:30pm. NOTHING that I tried or that Brian tried got him to sleep. We just let him stay awake and play to he was so tired that he basically fell asleep sitting up. Anyone have an ideas to get him to sleep when he gets like that. I mean I laid down with him in my bed and sang to him and had him asleep but he woke up screaming and WOULD NOT go back to sleep. I about cried when he did that. I wanted to spend time with Brian for a little bit before we went to bed. We have not had the chance to read our scriptures together because he works nights or I fall asleep with Iain while getting Iain down for the night. I just want to spend time with my husband. But on the flip side to him staying up so late was...He slept in his crib for 8 hours and than kinda woke up to eat and than slept for another hour and a half. Amazing, I know. And for the first time for I don't know, Brian and I were able to have our bed all to ourselves. I hope that it happens again tonight.

Favorite Songs

There are two songs that Iain loves me to sing over and over again at bed time each and every night. And they are Hush Little Baby and A Child's Prayer. Anyone know all the verses to Hush Little Baby. I know I don't know all of them and I need some more verses to sing at night. Hopefully, he will let Brian and I sing other songs as he gets older.

Food Poisoning

So, Brian has food poisoning. All because he eat something at work the night before that one of his co-workers girlfriends made. Needless to say he will never eat something that I didn't make him again. We only went to the first hour of our church meetings. At least we were there to pay our tithing.

Shopping the Clearance Racks

I love to look in the clearance racks at any and all stores Brian and I go into. This past Saturday Brian and I went to buy diapers at Babies R Us. The diapers were a bit more expensive than they are at Sam's Club or Costco but well worth the trip because we looked at the clearance baby/ toddler clothes. If you bought one clearance item you got the second one for .99 cents. How cool is that. We got 6 complete 18 month outfits for Iain and 1 6/9month outfit that was way to cute to pass up. When Brian gets paid again I plan on going back and getting some more 18month to 36 month outfits for our boy. I found a nursing shirt on sale for me. Brian also found an infant/toddler slaigh for $5. And we also found pacifiers on sale (Iain hides his all of the place and I can never find one when I need it). Seriorusly, we own 40 and I can NEVER find the ones that he likes. He spits the Gerber Nuk ones out as soon as he has it in his mouth, he ONLY likes the MAM pacifiers and they are expensive. We're talking $10 for a set of 2 pacifers. (I know, right. How can a company sell them for that much but they do). But we totally find them for $3.49 for a set of 2. I was excited. So, needless to say I will go back and pick up some more. Babies R Us is such a cool store. Honestly one stop shopping, if the only things you need to pickup are baby related. Yeah for sales.

Decisions have been made

Ever since Iain was a month old I've been ready to have another baby. I told Brian before we were engaged that I wanted my children 16 to 24 months apart. So that they would have a playmate and someone that they could talk to about any and everything. While obviously I'm not pregnant. But I did sit Brian down a little while ago and asked him when he thought he would be ready for another baby to bless our sweet family. He said IF (and that's a big if) everything falls in the right place by March, I can get the IUD taken out in May or June so that we can start trying in October 2010. That would make our children a little bit more than 24 months apart in age. But oh well, at least I now have somewhat of an idea when we can expect another baby. Here's to praying that everything falls into place over the next few months so that we can add to our little family.

Iain fell

This morning Iain and I were playing on our bed and he crawled to the end of the bed. He than decided that he should crawl over my feet. Well, I didn't move fast enough to catch him and he went over the side of our bed and hit the floor. He had this look of complete shock on his sweet face, the mommy didn't catch me face. Only when I stood up to get him did he start crying and screaming. An hour after he fell he was all smiles and laughing at everything. Brian checked him to make sure nothing was broken and that he was okay. Iain was fine. I'm sure that this won't be the last time he falls off and gets scared and hurt. He is learning how to do things. On a better note...Iain has gotten better had pulling himself up and taking his hands away from his support and standing all by himself for a few seconds anyway. He loves to eat everything that we feed him (yeah us for not having a picky eater). Loves to be read to and to be sang to. He also loves to be thrown. Learning to roll a ball. He can say bye-bye, dada, and mama (though he only says mama when he is upset and wants me or he will say it while he is in his crib, he likes to practice. It's kinda funny and way cute). We can't believe that our boy is almost 9 months old. The time as sure flown by fast. Before we know it he is going to be a one year old. And next October Iain gets to go into Nursery during church. We have a toddler on our hands. Iain is so very smart and active and he is only going to get smarter and more active. But we love him and are so blessed that he is part of our small family. We thank our Heavenly Father every day for bring Brian and I together. And that we were sealed in the temple for time and all eternity. Than for sending Iain to use (though it was a bit earlier than we had planned). I count my blessings every day for my loving husband and for my sweet baby boy.

Migraines

I hate migraines. They seem to hit when I least expect them to hit. All I can do is crawl into a dark room and hide from all light and noise. Does anyone know why migraines hit? Besides being stressed out, any other reasons.

Medela...Is so user friendly

I've been looking for a breast pump for long time and I finally found the breast pump that we are going to buy. Medela come out with it in 2009 and it is called Medela Freestyle Breast Pump. That best thing about this pump is that it is hands free and a double pump. Yeah. Only down side to this pump is that it costs $390 (that's after tax). Yuck, I know. I also love the Medela Swing breast pump. And we are the proud owner of one. The best thing about these breast pumps is they are user friendly and I can use it in my sleep.

Crocheted sweater from heck

I've been working on a crocheted sweater for my sister-in-law Julie. It was supposed to be her Christmas gift from Brian and I last year but as you see it is still not done and it is January. At least I have the main body of the sweater done...now onto the sleeves. I hope that I'll have it all done and ready for her to wear by this Sunday. We'll see if that happens. It is a beautiful sweater and I know that she will love it. I'll post a picture of Julie wearing it as soon as it is done.

To Allie

Not many of my friends have children and its sometimes hard to remember to call them when the day to day stuff drags you down. I'm so glad that I have friends that don't fault me for not calling or writing. I honestly don't know where I would be if I wasn't able to call my snuggle buddy and rant to her about the stresses of parenthood and how I always seem to forget where I put my purse and wallet. And she will just laugh with me not at me. She is truly a bright spot in my day. I can call and tell her the cute and sweet things that Iain did on any given day. Or just rant and rave about the stupid crape that is happening in my life. She makes me see a different point of view and makes me feel better. She loves my husband for the goofy person that he is and just except him for him. She treats him like family even before he and I were engaged. She is the best 'Auntie' that junior snuggle buddy has that isn't related by blood or marriage.

Goals for 2010

My goals for the up coming year are...
  • Losing the baby weight that I gained with Iain.
  • Exercising for 30 plus minutes a day.
  • Taking Iain out side to play and/or taking him for a walk every day.
  • Eating healthier.
  • Reading to Iain more each day and singing to him more.
  • Take pictures each day so that I can make a picture journal for Iain.
  • Make Iain a Alphabet book of pictures and phases that is just his.
  • Getting into shape so that when we are ready for another baby I won't have to put off getting pregnant till I was.
  • Letting what people say roll of my back instead of taking it to heart and getting hurt.
  • Taking time each day to do something just for me.
  • Taking time each day to spend with my husband without Iain there.
  • Calling those people that mean the most to me once a week.
  • Writing letters once a week and sending cards to people that I don't get to see all that often.
  • Doing my visit teaching every month even if my companion is not able to.
  • Trying and not complain about things to much.
  • Post something to our blog and write in my journal every day.
  • Work on my family history.
  • Do my family temple work.
  • Attend the temple with Brian at least once a month. (Maybe once a week, that would be great).
  • Finish craft projects that I started in 2008 and 2009. And maybe start some new ones this year and finish them during the year.
  • Spend more time as a family. Doing things with just Brian, Iain, and I.
I know this is a long list but these are things that I need to work on.

We have 1pm church

There are so many reasons why I love having late church...
  • For one getting up early has always been hard but it is even harder when your 8th month old son still gets up every 2-3 hours at night.
  • I have more time to get ready for church...meaning I can actually dry and style my hair and even put make-up on. Which means that I don't look like a mommy who can't get her act together.
  • We are actually on time if not early for our meetings. Yeah for us.
Reasons why its the pits...
  • The beginning of church is are when Iain goes down for his second nap of the day.
  • Iain is not happy and when he's like that he gets into mischief.
  • It's also when Brian and I take our naps with Iain.
  • I don't get as much done during the day.
So, we'll see how long Brian and I enjoy having our meetings at 1pm. So far it has been good but today was only the first Sunday of it.
