How long do you wait...

How long after your miscarried did you wait till you started trying for another baby? Brian and I haven't done anything to not get pregnant. I mean we both would like another baby but do you have to wait for a little bit between having a miscarriage before you try again.

My Dr. told me 3 months but I was 16 weeks when I lost mine. We started trying after 1 month but it still took 3 months exactly to get pregnant with our Emma.

If it was a very early miscarriage (before 8 weeks), doctors usually recommend waiting one or two months before trying again. It helps your body and hormones recover from the miscarriage, and gives you a chance to have a *normal period first*. That way they can date the pregnancy more accurately, and your body has had enough time to get back to normal before trying to support a new baby. Even after a very early miscarriage or chemical pregnancy, it can take 4-8 weeks for your hormones to stabilize and for your uterus to recover. Most women won't even ovulate for 4-8 weeks after an early miscarriage. And sometimes, the first egg released after a miscarriage has been affected by the whacky-post-miscarriage hormones. The goal is to let your hormones, ovaries, and uterus get back on track before you put more stress on them -- so you have the best possible environment for a new baby.

After later miscarriages -- anything from 10-20 weeks -- it can take 3-4 months for your body to recover if there weren't any other complications.

If you're really concerned, go see your doctor and ask their advice. They can even do an exam or test your hormone levels to make sure you're recovering well and everything is on track.
