He just won't sleep
Okay, so tonight I had Iain ready for bed by 8 o'clock and a sleep by 8:30pm. So that Brian and I could have couples time. But low and behold at 9:15, Mister Iain wakes up and WILL NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP. So, Brian is fighting with a son to get him back to sleep. So hopefully he will listen and just go back to sleep for the rest of the night.
I tell you what, having an awake baby (who sleeps in your room...KILLS the MOOD).
How ever are we going to be able to try for another baby if we can't get him to stay asleep and self sooth. We can't let Iain cry for to long at night. (So the crying it out method isn't an option for us right now because there is a high school who has a hard time getting up in the mornings for school and uses the excuse that the baby was crying and I couldn't sleep. When he is either reading a book or playing a video games till 1 or 2. Brian and I don't want to be used as an excuse for not getting up so we try and not let him cry to much at night).
Does any one have any ideas on how to get Iain to stay asleep so Brian and I don't loose our minds?

Our pediatrician recommended liquid melatonin. You can get it in the vitamin section of the store. It's a sleep aid. We buy the kind that says 1 mg on the front (I'll leave another comment with a link to the kind we get).
We put 1 or 2 droppers in Sam's sippy before bedtime if he's been waking up a lot. It's natural, it's not going to hurt him, and it helps his body learn how to sleep and stay asleep. It's saved us! Instead of hours of up and down and up and down, Sam falls asleep and stays asleep for a few hours. And after a week of melatonin, we weened him down and he still fell asleep. If he has a few rough nights, we start him up again.
Start small and work your way up -- every person needs a slightly different dose. I know kids who need 4 or 5 droppers, and some that pass out with 1. It's hard to overdose on melatonin (even at only 22 lbs), so it's worth a shot.
OH, and definitely get the liquid and not the powder.

So Abby had the same problem up until a week ago. She was up every 2 to 3 hours and some nights every hour and a half. She would only go back to sleep if I nursed her so it was a terrible habit. When I went to the doctor last week he was asking about her sleeping habits and he said to get her to sleep during the night I had to get her out of our room and let her cry. I didn't think I could do it but I had to do something because 7 months of no sleep was wearing me down. Anyway, we put her out of our room and that first night she woke up and cried for 25 minutes and then fell back asleep for the rest of the night. Since then she has slept 8-10 hours every night. So, my advice for you is somehow get him out of your room even if it is in the hallway. We had to do it on the weekend when Brandon didn't have to get up for work so that might work for your situation too, especially if you explain what you are trying to do!
